I want to thank you all for your patience on this long road, and especially in the last few days as I've been busy gearing up for the release event. 

As you may already know, tomorrow is the release party for "Cellar Door" and if you're local I really hope to see you there!

Party Details

Date: Saturday, August 31st

Time: 4PM - 8PM

Location: Oak Lawn Comics (formally Chimera's Comics), 4915 W. 95th Street, Oak Lawn, IL 60453

The creators will be there signing copies of the book and showing off their other works. Plus, the owner of Oak Lawn Comics is putting all of his graphic novels on sale for 35% off!

Oak Lawn Comics is formally Chimera's Comics Oak Lawn, which I gave away to the new owner Brian Stuchell after an essay contest last spring.

That's ok! We had backers all over the world - and besides, folks get busy. We'll ship your rewards out as promised if you can't make the party.

I hope you're excited for the release of "Cellar Door" this Saturday! I wanted to take a chance to tell you about another campaign I stumbled across - it has nothing to do with me, except that I believe in the idea and I think you might too. 

Comics For Halloween

How about comics instead of candy for trick-or-treators?

Alterna is a great company that's bringing dynamic new stories to comics and reviving classic newsprint and it's important to me to support the mission of people who love comics as much as I do.

And, they're donating 100 comics to children's hospitals for every $1,000 raised beyond their goal. It's too good of a cause for me not to share with you.

Our books have arrived and that means we're ready to have our release party on Saturday, August 31!

The Books Have Arrived!

No more promises - finally, I have results! Our books have arrived. I picked them up from the local warehouse yesterday (I would have gotten them last week, but I've been on vacation with my wife and just returned).

This is what they look like piled into my car - just looking at this photo makes me cringe.

I'm fond of saying, one strives for perfection in life but one rarely finds it. And yet, holding "Cellar Door" yesterday, I have to tell you - this is as close to perfect as anything I've ever done. Seriously, this book is gorgeous and you're going to love it.

We Cleared Customs! The Books Will Be Here Monday!

Have you ever heard of Santerram, New Mexico? Me neither.

But today I learned that's where our Cellar Door books are, rocketing toward us by rail as we speak with an ETA of Monday, August 12!

I'm so relieved we've overcome this hurdle. I am waiting to have the books in hand before I announce the new release party - not taking any more chances or breaking any more promises.

The good news is, the other rewards were ready to go for today, so we should be able to pack and ship without delay once the books arrive.

UH-OH! Spaghetti-Ohs. Release Party Postponed.

I have some terrible news: I am postponing the release. I hope when I explain why, you'll believe I did my best at all points with the information as I had it.

What Happened

As of this Monday, our shipper informed me our cargo would be in Chicago on July 31 for pickup. I scheduled time to go today to the warehouse to pick up the books.

But yesterday, I learned that sometime after I spoke to the shipper, our cargo container was flagged by customs. NOT our cargo specifically, but the entire container it is in. This is a random procedure.

It will take at least 3-4 days for US Customs to Inspect and another 8-9 to arrive in Chicago. 

I have begged, pleaded, and cajoled everyone and every way I can. And there's nothing I can do.

When Will The Books Be Released?

The books WILL come out this month and we WILL do the release before the end of August. But not next Friday.

I am so, so sorry I let you all down and I hope you'll forgive me.

I will have more specifics on timing next week. The good news is, all the other reward production is on schedule for completion by next Friday and I will have meaningful updates for you before then. Until then, it's like I always say...
